LWV Palos Verdes Peninsula. There was excitement on the streets of the Peninsula Center of Monday afternoon, February 5. Twenty representatives of a number of South Bay organizations, all supporters of Sheila Kuehl's Bill SB 840, worked the corner of Silver Spur and Hawthorne Boulevard for two hours. LWV Santa Cruz County. A large and enthusiastic crowd heard Mayor Emily Reilly present a proclamation from the city of Santa Cruz in support of SB840 and single payer health care, followed by Lt Gov Garamendi's Health Care Specialist, Nettie Hoge, who spoke about SB840 and the crisis in health care in California. The talk by Santa Cruz County Supervisor Neal Coonerty on the effects on business and labor included experience as owner of BookShop Santa Cruz and personal experience with the health care system. Santa Cruz County Treasurer Fred Keeley called Sheila Kuehl's bill "the gold standard" in contrast to other proposed legislation. This was a great evening!
